Greenville Softball Overpowers Litchfield with 11-1 Five-Inning Victory

The Greenville varsity softball team unleashed an offensive barrage Tuesday afternoon, defeating conference host Litchfield 11-1 in a decisive five-inning matchup. Backed by a relentless lineup and a steady complete-game performance from freshman pitcher Payton White, Greenville cruised to the decisive road win.

Greenville’s bats came alive early and often, racking up 10 hits and capitalizing on three massive scoring surges. After a scoreless first inning, the visitors broke the game open with three runs in the top of the second, followed by a commanding five-run burst in the third and three more in the fourth.

Junior Ava Potthast was the primary run producer for Greenville, going 2-for-3 with a team-high four RBIs. Junior Haylee Clark was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, tallying a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Freshman Jana Glisson also delivered a multi-hit performance, driving in two runs on a pair of hits, including a double, to fuel the visitors’ high-octane offense. Emma Bingham chipped in with an RBI double of her own.

On the mound, White was in complete control for Greenville. The freshman navigated five innings to earn the victory, allowing just one earned run on five hits. She struck out four batters and successfully pitched around four walks on 77 pitches. Greenville’s defense played flawlessly behind her, committing zero errors and turning two crucial double plays to stifle any potential Litchfield rallies.

Litchfield struggled to contain Greenville’s lineup, though the hosts managed to push their lone run across in the bottom of the third inning. Emma Estell scored for Litchfield and finished the day 1-for-2. Kinley Hemken paced the home team’s lineup with a solid 2-for-3 performance, while Madi Rimar and Aria Feeley each added a hit.

Starter Alexis Mielke took the loss in the circle for Litchfield, surrendering eight earned runs over 2.1 innings before Feeley entered in relief to toss the final 2.2 frames.
