Clark’s Homer and Lurkins’ Shutout Power Greenville Softball Past Litchfield 15-0

The Greenville varsity softball team showcased dominance on both sides of the diamond Friday, cruising to a 15-0 home victory over Litchfield. Fueled by an explosive offense and a lockdown pitching performance by sophomore Kaitlyn Lurkins, the hosts ended the non-conference matchup in just four innings.

Greenville set the tone early and never relented. They pushed two runs across in the opening frame before breaking the game wide open with a five-run second inning. The offensive onslaught was aided by Litchfield’s defensive struggles, as the visitors committed five errors, extending innings and allowing 10 unearned runs to cross the plate.

Junior Haylee Clark was the centerpiece of Greenville’s potent attack. Clark went 2-for-3 at the plate, mashing a home run, driving in a game-high four RBIs, and scoring three times. Junior Ava Potthast also delivered a stellar performance, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBIs.

The Greenville lineup received production from top to bottom, including key contributions from its freshmen. Payton White tallied two RBIs and scored twice, while Jana Glisson added an RBI double and crossed the plate twice herself.

While the offense built a commanding lead, Lurkins ensured Litchfield never had a chance to answer. The sophomore pitcher tossed a four-inning complete-game shutout, scattering just two hits while striking out eight batters on 83 pitches. She received flawless backing from her defense, which did not commit a single error in the contest.

Litchfield’s offense struggled to find a rhythm against Lurkins. Madi Rimar provided a bright spot for the visitors with a double, and Alexis Mielke added a single, but the team ultimately stranded six runners on base. Mielke took the loss in the circle, battling through 3.2 innings of work while striking out three.

Greenville capped their decisive victory by adding three runs in the third inning and polishing off the afternoon with a five-run fourth, triggering the run rule and sealing the 15-0 shutout.
