Carlinville’s Serve Overwhelms Litchfield in 2-0 Conference Sweep
CARLINVILLE, Ill. — Eleven service aces told the story. Carlinville rode a punishing night at the service line to a 2-0 conference sweep of visiting Litchfield, holding off a 10-kill performance from Purple Panthers senior Amari Vickery to improve to 12-12 on the season.
Litchfield, which fell to 6-14, never found steady footing in serve receive. The Panthers were charged with 11 reception errors across the two sets — the exact number of aces Carlinville produced — and the free points kept Litchfield from building any sustained run.
Sophomore Avery Davis was the engine for the Cavaliers. Running the offense from the setter position, Davis handed out 10 assists on 27 ball-handling attempts, added three kills of her own, and then did her heaviest damage with a volleyball in her hand, serving 11 times with four aces and just one error for a team-best eight service points. Senior Jada Barkley was nearly as effective, going 10-for-11 from the line with three aces and five points, while junior Aspen Tipps went a perfect 7-for-7 serving with two aces.
At the net, Carlinville spread the attack efficiently. Sophomore Sylvee Gibbs led the way with six kills on 14 swings and added five digs, and senior Payton Harding was the most efficient of the group, converting five kills on eight attempts with one error for a .500 clip. Sophomore Lexie Obrien matched that efficiency with four kills on eight swings, and senior Ruthie Reels chipped in three kills and a team-high six digs. The Cavaliers put up 22 kills on 55 attempts as a team.
Carlinville’s blocking unit also shaded the middle of the court. Sophomore Lyla Kahl was credited with two block assists, while Obrien and Reels each recorded a solo stuff.
For Litchfield, Vickery was the clear offensive focal point, hammering 10 kills — 5.0 per set — while senior setter Leighton Warchol distributed 13 assists with a single ball-handling error. Sophomore Kyleigh Zhang and senior Lexi Logan each added three kills, and Logan contributed three digs and an ace.
Senior Kyndal Law carried the back row for the Panthers, logging 14 serve receptions and a team-high six digs while adding an ace of her own. Junior Jada Carroll recorded a solo block.
The Panthers’ margin for error was thin. Litchfield finished with 17 kills against seven attack errors and managed only two aces on the night, and the gap at the service line proved too wide to close in a two-set match.
