Wernsing’s Hat Trick and Three Assists Power Litchfield Past Greenville 8-0

GREENVILLE, Ill. — Landon Wernsing had a hand in six of Litchfield’s eight goals, scoring three times and assisting on three more as the Purple Panthers rolled to an 8-0 conference road win over Greenville on Sept. 29.

The senior’s nine-point afternoon anchored a balanced Litchfield attack that put six different players on the scoresheet. Beyond Wernsing’s hat trick, Brody Dykema, Michael Wujek, Chance Holliday, Cambren Buzick and Jaxon Ray each found the net once, and the Purple Panthers finished with five assists on the day — a sign that the goals came from possession and service rather than isolated individual runs.

Dykema, a senior, and Ray, a junior, each matched a goal with an assist for three-point games of their own. Wujek, a sophomore, chipped in the lone underclass goal among the group, while Holliday and Buzick rounded out the senior scoring.

At the other end, Litchfield’s defense gave goalkeeper Cooper Martin very little to handle. The senior keeper turned aside the two shots he faced and recorded the clean sheet, his work made easier by a back line that kept Greenville from generating sustained pressure.

For Greenville, the loss dropped the Comets to 2-13 on the season.
