Litchfield Track Shines with Relay Wins and Individual Sweeps at Taylorville Meet
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. — The Litchfield High School track and field teams delivered a barrage of personal bests and first-place finishes, securing top-three team placements in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions at a five-team meet hosted by Taylorville on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Competing against Pleasant Plains, Taylorville, Riverton, and Virden (North Mac), the Litchfield boys claimed second place overall with 71 points, trailing only Pleasant Plains (96.5). The Litchfield girls engaged in a fiercely competitive battle for runner-up honors, ultimately taking third place with 78.5 points, just a half-point behind Taylorville (79) and behind meet champion Pleasant Plains (110).
For the Litchfield boys, speed and leaping ability were the themes of the afternoon. Senior Alec Roach set the tone on the track by winning the 100-meter dash in a blistering, personal-best 10.6 seconds. The boys’ 4×100 relay squad—featuring freshman Brylan Marten, Roach, sophomore Lukas Paine, and sophomore Jaxon Ray—cruised to victory with a time of 44.4 seconds. Litchfield’s depth in the long sprints was on display when the 4×400 relay team of Andrew Boston, Dean Gibbs, Johnathon Bowles, and Paine crossed the line first in 3:43.1.
In the field events, Marten proved to be a dual threat for Litchfield. The freshman claimed gold in the long jump with a leap of 5.85 meters and followed it up with a commanding victory in the triple jump, marking 12.35 meters. Teammate Johnathon Bowles added vital points by finishing second in the long jump (5.59m).
The Litchfield girls matched the boys’ intensity, powered by a dominant showing in the middle distances and relay events. Junior Leighton Warchol captured first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.2, followed closely by teammate Maggie Schwab, who finished second in 2:36.4 to secure a 1-2 sweep for the team. Freshman Ava White added an individual track victory by winning the 300-meter hurdles in 51.3 seconds.
Litchfield’s girls also showcased exceptional baton passing, sweeping the short relays. The 4×100 squad of Harley Foulk, Lana Cress, Jada Carroll, and Kilee Hoover took first place with a time of 55.2 seconds. The same quartet reunited for the 4×200 relay, crossing the line in 1:54.2 to secure another victory. Hoover further cemented her impact on the meet by winning the high jump, clearing 1.47 meters.
While Pleasant Plains claimed both team titles with deep, well-rounded rosters, Litchfield’s concentrated star power and relay dominance served as a strong statement heading into the final stretch of the spring season.
