Relentless Litchfield Offense Overwhelms Carlinville 9-0

A relentless offensive attack and a suffocating defense propelled the Litchfield varsity soccer team to a resounding 9-0 conference victory over visiting Carlinville on Thursday.

Firing a staggering 43 shots on the night, Litchfield controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and never allowed the opposition to settle in. Seven different players found the back of the net for Litchfield, showcasing a deep and balanced attacking unit.

Sophomore McKenna Harmon served as the centerpiece of the offensive onslaught, facilitating play and finishing her own chances. Harmon tallied a game-high six points, contributing two goals and two assists. Fellow sophomore Emma Weidner also delivered a multi-goal performance, finding the back of the net twice while peppering the Carlinville defense with a team-high nine shots.

The Litchfield veterans also made their presence felt. Senior Chloe Law controlled the midfield, registering a goal and a pair of assists, while senior Avery Stewart chipped in with a goal and a helper. Senior Alli Frerichs, sophomore Adia Melchert, and freshman Mataya Melchert each added a goal to round out the scoring.

On the opposite end of the pitch, sophomore goalkeeper Lynzie Reid earned the clean sheet. Reid played the full 80 minutes in net, benefiting from a Litchfield defensive scheme that kept the ball trapped in the attacking third and completely neutralized Carlinville’s offense.
