Litchfield Powers Past Gillespie 8-1 to Remain Perfect in Conference Play
The Litchfield varsity soccer team continued its spectacular 2026 campaign on Friday afternoon, overpowering conference rival Gillespie for a resounding 8-1 victory on their home turf at Litchfield High School.
With the dominant win, Litchfield extended its near-flawless season record to 20-1-1, remaining a perfect 8-0 in conference play and an untouchable 13-0 at home. Entering the match, Gillespie boasted an impressive 11-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league play, but they were ultimately unable to slow down Litchfield’s relentless offensive attack.
Litchfield’s high-octane offense was on full display in the eight-goal performance, pushing their season scoring total to an incredible 126 goals while allowing just six all year. Throughout the 2026 season, the offensive charge has been led by dynamic playmaker Chloe Law, who entered the week leading the squad with 39 goals, 22 assists, and 131 shots. Her ability to create and finish opportunities has been a nightmare for opposing backlines.
While the offense lit up the scoreboard, Litchfield’s defensive unit effectively neutralized a Gillespie squad that came into the game averaging 4.4 goals per contest. The Litchfield defense, anchored by goalkeeper Emily Buzick, limited the visitors to a single goal, maintaining their exceptional season-long goals-against average of 0.265.
The gap between the two programs was further highlighted by their performance against shared opponents. Over the course of the season, Litchfield has compiled a flawless 14-0 record against common foes, while Gillespie holds a 9-2 mark in those same matchups.
Ranked sixth in their class in Illinois, Litchfield looks every bit the part of a championship contender as they build momentum for the looming postseason.
