Pittsfield Powers Past Litchfield 7-4 Behind Bernard’s Complete Game

The Pittsfield varsity baseball team secured a 7-4 non-conference road victory against Litchfield on Thursday. Fueled by a pivotal three-run fourth inning, a home run from Ryan Harris, and a steady complete-game pitching performance by Collin Bernard, Pittsfield battled back from an early deficit to seal the win.

Litchfield struck early, responding to a first-inning Pittsfield run with one of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The hosts then added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning, establishing a 3-1 lead while keeping the Pittsfield bats quiet through the third.

The momentum shifted dramatically in the top of the fourth inning. Pittsfield’s offense found its rhythm, plating three runs to leap ahead 4-3. They added another run in the fifth, though Litchfield managed to answer with a run in the bottom of the inning to keep the game tight at 5-4. In the top of the sixth, Pittsfield manufactured two crucial insurance runs to put the game out of reach, leaning on their defense and pitching to close out the final two frames without any further damage.

Offensively, Pittsfield tallied 10 hits on the day, highlighted by aggressive baserunning and timely power. Ryan Harris delivered the game’s biggest swing, blasting a home run and finishing with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kaden Ferguson was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Hayden Gratton consistently found his way on base, leading the team with three hits in five at-bats and stealing a pair of bases. Collin Bernard also contributed at the plate, hitting a double and driving in a run.

On the mound, Bernard went the distance for Pittsfield. He threw 108 pitches over seven complete innings, allowing just four hits and four earned runs while striking out five Litchfield batters to secure the victory.
