Reid’s Two-Way Dominance Propels Gillespie Softball to 15-0 Win Over Litchfield

Senior Paxton Reid tossed a complete-game shutout and homered at the plate as the Gillespie varsity softball team overwhelmed Litchfield 15-0 in Tuesday’s home conference matchup. Powered by a massive 11-run opening inning, Gillespie established immediate control and cruised to a four-inning, run-rule victory.

Gillespie wasted no time putting Litchfield on its heels. Taking advantage of early defensive miscues by the visitors—who committed five errors on the day—the Gillespie lineup relentlessly turned the order over. By the time Litchfield recorded the third out of the first inning, the hosts had already plated 11 runs and effectively put the game out of reach.

Reid was the centerpiece of Gillespie’s success on both sides of the diamond. In the circle, the senior was highly efficient, needing just 52 pitches to navigate four scoreless innings. Reid scattered three hits, struck out six batters, and did not issue a single walk. At the plate, she was equally dangerous, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

The Gillespie offense showcased depth from top to bottom, racking up 14 hits as a team. Senior Ava Rakers joined Reid in the home run column, launching a solo shot as part of a 2-for-3 performance. Ava Parish sparked the top of the lineup, ripping a double and crossing the plate three times while going 2-for-3. Sadie Sholtis also delivered clutch situational hitting, matching Reid with a team-high three RBIs and lifting a sacrifice fly. Seniors Ava Segarra and sophomore Helaina Scott contributed multi-hit games as well, keeping the pressure on the Litchfield defense.

For Litchfield, Aria Feeley started in the circle and took the loss after struggling to escape Gillespie’s first-inning onslaught. Alexis Mielke entered in relief and settled the game down slightly, striking out four over three innings of work. Offensively, Litchfield struggled to find a rhythm against Reid’s pounding of the strike zone. Charlie Bono, Mielke, and Feeley managed one hit apiece, but the lineup was unable to string consecutive hits together to threaten the shutout.

After a scoreless second frame, Gillespie tacked on a single run in the third and triggered the run rule with a walk-off, three-run surge in the bottom of the fourth inning to seal the 15-0 sweep.
