Law, Harmon Net Braces as Litchfield Rolls Past Highland 7-0 in Tournament Play

LITCHFIELD, Ill. — The Litchfield varsity girls’ soccer team delivered its second consecutive seven-goal shutout on Thursday, utilizing explosive offensive performances from senior Chloe Law and sophomore McKenna Harmon to overpower visiting Highland 7-0 in home tournament action.

Fresh off a 7-0 victory over Hillsboro the day prior, Litchfield’s attack showed zero signs of fatigue. The hosts dictated the tempo from the opening kickoff, establishing a commanding 4-0 advantage by halftime and outshooting Highland by a lopsided 28-5 margin over the course of the match.

Law was the offensive focal point for Litchfield, factoring into four of the team’s seven goals. The senior playmaker secured a brace and dished out two assists, finishing the evening with a game-high six points on seven shots. Harmon was equally relentless inside the final third, peppering the Highland net with a game-high 10 shots and scoring twice to record a brace of her own.

The Litchfield offense was buoyed by a strong supporting cast that continually kept the Highland defense scrambling. Sophomore Adia Melchert fired five shots and found the back of the net once, while senior Avery Stewart and sophomore Emma Weidner each converted on their two shot attempts to add their names to the scoring column.

Defensively, Litchfield smothered Highland’s counterattacks before they could materialize. The backline limited the visitors to just five total shots, with junior Madalyn Roach pacing Highland with three attempts. Litchfield sophomore goalkeeper Lynzie Reid commanded her area flawlessly, making two saves to easily secure her second clean sheet in as many days.

On the other side of the pitch, Highland sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Haye faced a staggering volume of Litchfield attempts. Haye performed admirably under constant duress, turning away 14 shots in a valiant effort to anchor her team’s defense.
