Adia Melchert’s Six-Point Performance Powers Litchfield to 7-0 Tournament Rout of Hillsboro
LITCHFIELD, Ill. — Bouncing back from a tough shutout loss earlier in the week, the Litchfield varsity girls’ soccer team emphatically rediscovered its offensive rhythm on Wednesday, overwhelming Hillsboro 7-0 in a home tournament match.
Sophomore Adia Melchert was the driving force behind Litchfield’s resurgent attack, orchestrating the offense to the tune of a game-high six points. Melchert secured a brace by burying two of her four shots and showcased her field vision by distributing a pair of assists.
Fellow sophomore Emma Weidner was equally clinical in the final third, matching Melchert’s goal output with two tallies on four attempts. Senior Chloe Law continued her stellar campaign, contributing a goal and an assist to keep the Hillsboro defense off balance.
Litchfield dictated the pace from the opening whistle, taking a comfortable 3-0 lead into halftime before pouring on four additional goals in the second half. The home squad generated a staggering 26 shots, relentlessly testing the Hillsboro backline. Sophomore McKenna Harmon led the shooting gallery with eight attempts and was rewarded with a goal, while senior Alli Frerichs also found the back of the net.
The Litchfield supporting cast consistently set up scoring opportunities. Seniors Avery Stewart and Halle Rogers, along with sophomore Kilee Hoover, each registered an assist in the lopsided victory.
Defensively, Litchfield was just as commanding. The backline limited Hillsboro’s chances, and sophomore goalkeeper Lynzie Reid handled the rest. Reid turned away all five shots she faced over 80 minutes to earn another clean sheet, cementing the shutout for the hosts. Hillsboro junior goalkeeper Delaney Adams absorbed the loss as her defense struggled to contain Litchfield’s multifaceted attack.
