Marquette Catholic Shuts Out Litchfield 2-0 Behind Hough’s Three-Point Performance

ALTON, Ill. — The Litchfield varsity girls’ soccer team saw its recent offensive hot streak come to a halt on Monday evening, falling 2-0 on the road to a stout Marquette Catholic squad in a non-conference matchup.

After scoring 17 goals over their previous three outings, the Litchfield attackers struggled to penetrate a disciplined Marquette Catholic defense. The hosts controlled the pace of play and capitalized on their scoring opportunities to secure the shutout victory.

Junior Izzi Hough was the catalyst for the Marquette Catholic attack, factoring into both of her team’s goals. Hough netted the game-winning tally and also provided an assist to help seal the win. Junior Alex Stephan added the insurance goal for the hosts, while junior Alivia Noss contributed an assist to round out the scoring summary.

Despite being held off the scoreboard, Litchfield still managed to generate offensive pressure, firing nine total shots. Sophomore McKenna Harmon led the charge with four attempts, and senior Chloe Law added three shots of her own. Freshman Mataya Melchert and senior Avery Stewart each registered a shot, but the team could not find a way past Marquette Catholic senior goalkeeper Jessica Eales. Eales recorded three saves over 80 minutes to earn the clean sheet.

On the opposite end of the pitch, Litchfield sophomore goalkeeper Lynzie Reid put forth another solid effort in net. Reid corralled five saves against a persistent Marquette Catholic offense but ultimately absorbed the loss.
