Reid’s 20-Save Masterclass Helps Litchfield Secure 1-1 Draw Against Gibault Catholic

WATERLOO, Ill. — Litchfield sophomore goalkeeper Lynzie Reid delivered a heroic performance between the pipes on Friday evening, racking up an astonishing 20 saves to help the varsity girls’ soccer team secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Gibault Catholic in a non-conference road test.

Facing a relentless Gibault Catholic attack that maintained heavy offensive pressure throughout the 80-minute contest, Reid was the undisputed anchor for the Litchfield defense. She turned away 20 of the 21 shots directed her way, allowing her team to weather the storm and grind out a result on the road.

Gibault Catholic broke through the Litchfield defensive wall first. In the opening half, senior Karmon Grohmann found the back of the net off an assist from senior Aubry Thomas, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage heading into the intermission.

Despite being significantly outshot, Litchfield made the most of its counterattacks and capitalized when it mattered. In the second half, the sophomore connection struck again for Litchfield. Adia Melchert leveled the match at 1-1, burying a shot after a well-timed assist from McKenna Harmon.

Harmon also served as Litchfield’s primary offensive instigator, generating a team-high three shots. Seniors Chloe Law and Emma Weidner, along with sophomore Kilee Hoover, added two shots apiece to keep the Gibault Catholic defense honest.

Gibault Catholic sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Altes played a solid match of her own to preserve the tie. Altes faced nine shots on goal from the Litchfield attack, turning away eight of them to ensure the hosts walked away with a share of the spoils.
