Relentless Litchfield Attack Generates 41 Shots in 5-0 Road Win Over AGIC Co-op

ATHENS, Ill. — The Litchfield varsity girls’ soccer team unleashed a staggering offensive barrage on Thursday, firing off 41 total shots to overwhelm the Athens/Greenview/Illini Central (AGIC) Co-op 5-0 in a non-conference road matchup.

Litchfield controlled the tempo and possession from the opening kickoff, keeping the ball pinned in the AGIC defensive third for nearly the entire 80 minutes. The relentless pressure paid off quickly, as the visitors built a commanding 4-0 advantage by halftime before coasting through the final 40 minutes.

Sophomore McKenna Harmon continued her recent scoring tear to lead the Litchfield attack. Harmon peppered the opposing net with a game-high 10 shots, breaking through for a pair of goals to secure a brace. Sophomore Emma Weidner was similarly aggressive on the offensive end, uncorking eight shots and finding the back of the net once.

Litchfield’s depth proved to be a major factor, with contributions coming from across the roster. Sophomore Kilee Hoover made the most of her 40 minutes on the pitch, tallying a goal and an assist to finish with three points. Senior Avery Stewart also joined the scoring column with a goal on five shots, while freshmen Mataya Melchert and sophomore Adia Melchert both acted as key facilitators, providing one assist each.

The sheer volume of Litchfield’s attack kept the AGIC goalkeepers under constant fire. Senior J. Younkin started in net for the hosts and made a valiant effort, turning away 11 shots over 55 minutes of action. Junior A. Harris stepped in for the final 25 minutes, logging an impressive seven saves of her own. Combined, the AGIC goalies recorded 18 saves to prevent an even wider margin of defeat.

On the opposite end of the field, the Litchfield defense was virtually impenetrable. The backline neutralized the AGIC attack before it could develop, allowing just two shots on goal the entire match. Junior Ava Bee and junior Leilah Link managed the lone offensive strikes for the hosts.

Litchfield sophomore goalkeeper Lynzie Reid earned yet another clean sheet, requiring just one save over 80 minutes to secure the shutout victory.
