Article Summary: The Litchfield Park District Board of Commissioners discussed infrastructure updates during their January meeting, specifically regarding delays with the new concession and bathroom building. Officials recommended hiring outside contractors to complete necessary concrete work to move the project forward.
Infrastructure Key Points:
-
Concession Stand Delays: The board was advised to hire local contractors for concrete work on the “Tardis” concession/bathroom structure after failed attempts to schedule the building trades class from SCI.
-
Pool Repairs: A new low diving board is required for the upcoming season; the district is seeking bids and plans to apply for a Corwin Fund grant to cover costs.
-
Statue Preservation: A crane may be required to lift the Indian statue at Walton Park for preservation work.
The Litchfield Park District Board of Commissioners met on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, to address ongoing maintenance projects and infrastructure needs for the coming year.
A primary topic of discussion was the status of the “Tardis” structure, which will serve as a concession stand and bathroom facility. According to the Community Center report presented under Commissioner Katie Cross’s committee, the building is nearly complete but requires site preparation before final installation.
Director Bryant reported that attempts to schedule the building trades class from SCI to assist with the project have been unsuccessful for several months. Consequently, it was recommended that the board hire private contractors to handle the concrete work to ensure the project’s completion. Once the concrete foundation is laid, plumbing and electrical work can proceed.
In other maintenance matters, the board discussed necessary repairs for the district pool. Director Bryant met with a representative from Capri Pool regarding the low diving board, which must be replaced before the 2026 swim season begins. The district has requested a bid for the replacement and intends to submit a grant application to the Corwin Fund to assist with the expense.
The board also received an update regarding the Indian statue at Walton Park. Chris Hubbard of Hillsboro has agreed to inspect the statue and provide preservation recommendations. Preliminary discussions suggest a crane may be needed to lift the statue and cut it from its current base to relocate it to a new one.
