LITCHFIELD — The City of Litchfield will hold its fall clean-up collection the week of Oct. 5, with crews beginning in Ward 1 and continuing through each of the city’s remaining wards, the city said.

Residents must have items at the boulevard by 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, according to the notice. Appliances will be picked up only after staff have completed the rotation through all four wards.

The city said it will not take building materials, tires, brush, railroad ties, paint, household trash, cardboard or electronics.

Items should be placed in a central location, the notice said, and disposable containers should be used. Each must weigh less than 70 pounds. If trash cans are used as containers, they will be disposed of along with the material inside. No item may be larger than a household couch or mattress.

Crews will not pick up torn-down structures, fire-damaged structures or out-of-town trash, and will make only one pass on each street, the city said.

Items may not be placed on the boulevard before Sept. 28, which the city said is a code violation. Items left on the boulevard that are not eligible for pickup are also a code violation and may be subject to a citation.

The city said residents should use their regular trash service for unwanted items other than larger ones, and that most items put out for clean-up can be handled by a regular trash pickup provider.
