Litchfield Builds Early Lead, Holds Off Pana 7-3 in Conference Clash

A relentless early offensive approach allowed the Litchfield varsity baseball team to build a comfortable cushion and secure a 7-3 conference victory over visiting Pana on Thursday afternoon.

Litchfield (25-26) dictated the tempo from the opening pitch, systematically dismantling the Pana defense by scoring in each of the first four innings. The hosts struck for two runs in the bottom of the first, added single runs in the second and third, and blew the game open with a three-run surge in the fourth to establish a commanding 7-0 advantage. Though individual statistics for Litchfield were unavailable, the team’s balanced attack generated seven hits and capitalized on four walks and four Pana errors.

Trailing by seven runs, Pana (25-26) refused to go quietly and mounted a late-game rally. The visitors finally broke through in the top of the fifth, scratching a run across the plate, and added two more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Parker Moore was the primary catalyst for the Pana offense, finishing the day 2-for-3 with a double and two crucial RBIs. Jax Czaikowski also delivered a standout performance at the top of the lineup, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances. Czaikowski went 1-for-1 with three walks, a run scored, and a pair of stolen bases to consistently put pressure on the Litchfield defense. Easton Malisia added a hit and a stolen base for the visitors.

Carder Burris took the loss on the mound for Pana. The starter battled through four innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits while striking out four and walking four. Brylan Miller provided a steady hand in relief for the visitors, tossing two scoreless innings and yielding just one hit while facing the minimum to keep Pana within striking distance.

Despite committing four errors of their own, Litchfield’s pitching and defense tightened up in the seventh inning to shut the door on the Pana comeback attempt, securing the 7-3 home victory.
