Litchfield Offense Strikes Early, Rolls Past Staunton 10-5

The Litchfield varsity baseball team jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, securing a 10-5 conference victory over visiting Staunton on Tuesday afternoon.

Litchfield set the tone immediately, pushing three runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning. The hosts consistently applied pressure throughout the contest, scoring in five of their six offensive frames. Showcasing a disciplined and opportunistic offense, Litchfield capitalized on eight hits, six walks, and three Staunton errors to keep the bases active. The relentless attack was highlighted by a home run that helped keep the visitors at a comfortable distance.

Staunton (25-26) struggled to solve Litchfield’s pitching early but finally broke through in the top of the fourth. Trailing 4-0, the visitors rallied for three runs to briefly tighten the contest. Freshman A. Spickerman and sophomore Kaiden Linkeman each drove in a pair of runs to pace the Staunton attack, while senior Logan Tuetken finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored. Senior Matt Overby also contributed a double and scored a run.

However, Litchfield answered the threat immediately, plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth to restore a 7-3 cushion. They added a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Litchfield’s pitching staff was overpowering for much of the afternoon, racking up 13 strikeouts while limiting Staunton to just six hits.

Junior Braylen Brown took the loss on the mound for Staunton, pitching four innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits while striking out seven. Senior Tate Powell tossed two innings for the visitors, yielding three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
