Litchfield’s Offensive Juggernaut Rolls Past Southwestern in 9-0 Shutout
The Litchfield varsity girls’ soccer team showcased its relentless attacking power and stifling defense on Wednesday evening, cruising to a comprehensive 9-0 conference road victory over Southwestern (Piasa).
Playing at Piasa Southwestern High School, Litchfield (16-1-1) dictated the tempo from the opening whistle. The visitors built a commanding 4-0 advantage by halftime, utilizing crisp passing and aggressive pressure to keep Southwestern pinned in its defensive third.
The offensive barrage continued in the second half. Litchfield poured in five additional goals to cap off the 9-0 rout, further cementing their status as a conference powerhouse. With the win, Litchfield remains a perfect 5-0 in conference play. The team’s season-long dominance is highlighted by a staggering +101 goal differential (105 goals for, 4 goals against) across 18 matches, driven by the prolific play of offensive standouts like season goal-scoring leader Chloe Law and shot-creator McKenna Harmon.
Defensively, Litchfield was impenetrable. The backline and goaltending corps, anchored by season standout Emily Buzick, completely shut down the Southwestern attack. The hosts were unable to register a tally, extending Litchfield’s impressive streak of clean sheets this season.
Southwestern drops to 6-6 overall (2-3 in conference play) with the defeat. The hosts fought hard but ultimately could not match the pace and execution of the high-flying Litchfield squad.
