Lincolnwood Mounts Late Rally to Defeat Litchfield 3-1

A stellar pitching performance by Litchfield’s Aria Feeley was not enough to hold off a late-game surge, as the visiting Lincolnwood varsity softball team rallied for a 3-1 non-conference victory on Monday afternoon. Lincolnwood scored all three of its runs in the final two innings to overcome an early Litchfield lead and secure the road win.

Litchfield broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning. Alexis Mielke sparked the offense with a hit and eventually came around to score, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Despite scattering five hits throughout the contest, the Litchfield lineup struggled to manufacture additional runs, stranding seven base runners over the course of the afternoon. Mielke, Kinley Hemken, Charlie Bono, Chloe Green, and Madi Rimar accounted for Litchfield’s five hits, with Bono also reaching base via a hit-by-pitch.

In the circle, Feeley kept the Lincolnwood bats quiet for the majority of the game. The Litchfield starter worked 6.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out five. However, Lincolnwood finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning, capitalizing on an opportunity to push across the tying run.

With the game knotted at 1-1 entering the seventh, Lincolnwood’s offense found its rhythm. The visitors strung together four hits and plated two earned runs during a brief relief appearance by Mielke, who pitched 0.1 innings. Feeley, who handled the bulk of the pitching duties, was ultimately saddled with the hard-luck loss despite not allowing an earned run.

Litchfield was unable to answer in the bottom of the seventh, as the Lincolnwood defense shut the door to complete the 3-1 comeback victory.
