Collinsville Walks Off Litchfield 7-6 in Seventh-Inning Thriller

The Collinsville varsity softball team treated their home crowd to a dramatic finish on Wednesday, securing a 7-6 walk-off victory over non-conference visitor Litchfield. After watching a mid-game lead evaporate in the top of the seventh inning, the Kahoks showed tremendous resilience, plating the game-winning run in the bottom half of the final frame to seal the win.

Litchfield came out of the gates swinging, putting Collinsville in an early hole. The Purple Panthers scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and added another in the second to build a quick 3-0 advantage. Chloe Green was perfect at the plate for Litchfield, going 2-for-2 with a double, while Charlie Bono also contributed two hits and an RBI.

However, Collinsville’s offense awoke with a vengeance in the bottom of the second inning. The Kahoks erupted for six runs in the frame, flipping the game on its head to take a 6-3 lead. The offensive surge was fueled by incredible speed on the basepaths and a barrage of triples from Ava Muniz, Aubrey Bordoni, and A. Lauenstein. Faith Fairchild and Lilly Paarlberg also sparked the rally, tallying two hits apiece on the afternoon.

Trailing by three, Litchfield refused to go quietly. The Panthers scratched across an unearned run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. In the top of the seventh, Litchfield’s lineup delivered in the clutch, striking for two runs to stun the hosts and tie the game at 6-6.

Despite the late-game momentum shift, Collinsville regrouped in the bottom of the seventh. The Kahoks strung together key at-bats against Litchfield’s pitching, successfully pushing across the walk-off run to end the afternoon with a thrilling 7-6 victory.

In the circle, Collinsville relied on a strong extended outing from Payton Smith, who tossed six innings, allowing zero earned runs on just four hits. Litchfield pitcher Alexis Mielke was equally impressive in relief, racking up nine strikeouts over 5.1 innings while surrendering just two runs.
