PORTA/A-C Central Pitching Stifles Litchfield in 3-0 No-Hitter

Litchfield’s pitching staff delivered a stellar performance on Monday, allowing just two hits and zero earned runs. However, the Purple Panthers’ offense was completely stifled by PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central pitching, resulting in a 3-0 home non-conference defeat.

The visiting PORTA/A-C Central squad combined to throw a no-hitter, frustrating Litchfield batters throughout the seven-inning affair. The Panthers managed only three baserunners all afternoon and struck out 11 times.

Despite the lack of offensive support, Litchfield’s arms kept the team in the game from start to finish. Senior T. Pastrovich took the hard-luck loss after starting and tossing four strong innings. He surrendered just one hit and three walks while striking out a pair. PORTA/A-C Central managed to scratch across an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning to break the scoreless tie and take the lead for good.

Senior Titan Hires entered in relief and continued Litchfield’s dominant pitching trend, throwing the final three frames. Hires allowed just one hit and two walks with a pair of strikeouts. Unfortunately, a pair of Litchfield defensive errors proved costly, allowing the visitors to add two more unearned insurance runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Offensively, junior Max Gretjak reached base with Litchfield’s lone walk of the game, while senior Mathew Bywater earned a trip to first base after being hit by a pitch. Senior Max Leitschuh accounted for the team’s only other baserunner, reaching on an error and later stealing a base.

Defensively, Litchfield recorded 21 putouts and eight assists, highlighted by a clean game behind the plate for junior catcher Quinton Harris, who tallied seven putouts and an assist.
