Article Summary: The board discussed purchasing a property at 127 N. Main Street in Hillsboro to house the Recovery Court, but returned the matter to committee for further review.

Property Purchase Key Points:

  • Potential Site: The building at 127 N. Main Street is being considered to relieve overcrowding for the Recovery Court, which currently shares space with the EMA.

  • Closed Session: The board entered a closed session for approximately 40 minutes to discuss the potential acquisition.

  • Outcome: No immediate purchase was made; the matter was referred back to the Buildings & Grounds Committee.

The Montgomery County Board on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, evaluated the potential purchase of a building in Hillsboro to address space constraints within the county’s court system.

The property, located at 127 N. Main Street, was identified by the Buildings & Grounds Committee as a potential location for the Recovery Court. Chief Probation Officer Banee Ulrici had previously reported to the committee that the Recovery Court is currently sharing space with the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and needs a dedicated facility. The 708 Board has also expressed interest in the project, noting that Drug Court is at capacity in its current space.

During the full board meeting, member Ethan Murzynski moved to enter a closed session at 6:28 p.m. to discuss the potential property purchase. The board returned to open session at 7:11 p.m.

Upon returning, the board voted to refer the property matter back to the Buildings & Grounds Committee for possible future action rather than voting on a purchase immediately.
