Montgomery County Buildings & Grounds Committee | November Meeting
Article Summary: To address overcrowding and confidentiality concerns in the courthouse basement, the Montgomery County Probation Office is proposing the purchase of a commercial building at 127 North Main Street.
Buildings & Grounds Key Points:
-
The Property: The target property is 127 North Main Street, currently known as RehabEdge.
-
The Need: Probation services are expanding into mental health and drug court areas, and the current shared basement space lacks necessary confidentiality.
-
Funding: Probation officials believe current grant funding could help offset the costs of purchase and renovation.
HILLSBORO, Ill. – The Montgomery County Probation Office may soon have a new home if a proposal discussed at the December 2, 2025, Buildings & Grounds Committee meeting moves forward.
Banee Ulrici of the Probation Office presented a proposal to purchase the property at 127 North Main Street, currently occupied by RehabEdge. Ulrici explained that the probation office is currently sharing basement space in the Courthouse Complex with the Emergency Management Agency (EMA).
With services expanding into mental health and drug court support, Ulrici argued the current space is insufficient. “The office is also in need of a secure space where they can ensure confidentiality,” the minutes state.
While committee members raised concerns about the cost of upkeep and furnishing a new building, Ulrici noted that grant funds currently received by the department could relieve some of those costs. The committee directed Building & Grounds Chairman Mark Hughes and Circuit Clerk Daniel Robbins to develop a formal proposal for review next month.
