Litchfield Park District Board Meeting | Nov. 5, 2025

The Litchfield Park District Board met on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, to conduct its regular monthly business. The board authorized a 5 percent increase in the annual tax levy and reviewed end-of-season reports for the pool and ball parks. Guest Chad Foss presented a proposal on behalf of Litchfield Baseball Inc. to expand Schalk Field at no cost to the district, though no final vote was taken.

Commissioners also discussed ongoing construction projects at the Community Center and celebrated a successful Trunk or Treat event that drew more than 1,000 community members.

News Briefs:

Community Center Progress:
Work continues on the “Tardis” structure and concession stand project. Commissioner Katie Cross reported that Mike Young of Local 1084 has volunteered to perform all concrete work, which must be completed before the building can be placed. Dan Heise is slated to handle plumbing, while D & M Electric will perform electrical work. Building Inspector Gary Baker currently holds the plans.

Seasonal Maintenance Layoffs:
The board discussed the seasonal schedule for maintenance staff. Staff will be laid off on Friday, November 28, and are scheduled to return to work around March 6, 2026.

Rip Rap Funding Secured:
The board received an update regarding the rip rap project at Walton Park. The Richie Fund will pay for the project, and work is scheduled to begin this month. In related maintenance news, the “Indian” statue at Walton Park has been treated, though the board is still seeking long-term preservation ideas.

Pickleball Tournament Set:
Under new business, the board decided to host another indoor Pickleball Tournament. The event is scheduled to take place at the Community Center on January 31 and February 1, 2026.

Litchfield Unlimited Partnership:
The board discussed the possibility of a partnership with the Litchfield Unlimited Corporation (LUC). Commissioners are currently exploring options for a joint venture with the group.

Tennis Program Update:
A tennis program started by Marion Williams is currently running at the Community Center on Tuesday nights. Due to the season, the group meets on the stage side of the Community Center during the winter months.

SIPRA Conference:
The board discussed attendance at the SIPRA Mini Conference in Collinsville. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, with a one-day registration fee of $20.00.
