Litchfield City Council Meeting | Oct. 2, 2025

Article Summary: The council approved the outfitting of a new Dodge Durango for the ordinance officer and authorized the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police to assist in the search for a new full-time Police Chief.

Police Department Key Points:

  • Vehicle Upfit: A 2024 Dodge Durango will be equipped with police lights, sirens, and safety gear at a cost of $10,251.99.

  • Ordinance Officer: The vehicle is for the ordinance officer, who is a sworn officer capable of responding to emergencies if needed.

  • Chief Search: The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police will conduct an executive search for a new Police Chief, a process expected to cost up to $12,000.

  • Hiring Process: The association will guide the process, but the final hiring decision remains with the City Council.

The Litchfield Police Department is moving forward with equipping its fleet and leadership. On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, the City Council voted to approve the installation of emergency equipment on a recently purchased 2024 Dodge Durango.

The low bid of $10,251.99 from Data Tronics was accepted. Alderperson Bert Holloway clarified that while the vehicle is designated for the ordinance officer, it needs full police capabilities because the officer is sworn and may need to assist in emergencies.

“The goal is to have an extra officer so that in our most severe calls he can respond,” City Administrator Breann Vazquez added.

Separately, the council authorized the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police to lead the search for a new full-time Police Chief following the resignation of Kenny Ryker. The service, costing up to $12,000, will include advertising, candidate vetting, and an assessment center.

Alderperson Josh Hughes asked if the local Police and Fire Commission could be involved in the interview process. Vazquez confirmed that while the final decision rests with the Mayor and Council for an appointed chief, the administration would work to include commission members if desired.
