Walton Park
A Historic Gathering Place Since 1905
Owned by the City and maintained by the Park District, Walton Park is an 11-acre gem that has served as Litchfield’s communal backyard for over a century. Steeped in local history, this park was the site of the first 1905 Chautauqua, a massive cultural assembly that featured speeches by historical titans like William Jennings Bryan and Carrie Nation.
Today, the park is anchored by a serene 40-acre lake (originally filled in 1863), which creates a stunning backdrop for outdoor recreation. It is a favorite spot for photographers and nature lovers, famous for its picturesque covered bridge and two handicap-accessible observation decks that offer the best sunset views in the county.
