Illinois Quick Hits: Chicago Election Board says 94% of ballots casts were for Dems

(The Center Square) – The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners have announced the official results of the primary election in the city on March 17.

The board said 210,312 ballots, or 49.5%, were cast in Chicago on Election Day. Twenty-four percent of the ballots were cast in early voting, and 26% were cast by mail.

Democratic turnout accounted for 93.99% of ballots cast, followed by Republican ballots at 5.7% and Libertarians at 0.3%.

A Madison, Wisconsin man is charged with methamphetamine trafficking after a traffic stop in McLean County.

Illinois State Police say they arrested Ivan Kuckuk, 25, on Monday afternoon after a vehicle search led to the discovery of nearly 100 pounds of suspected meth with a street value of almost $500,000.

GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO FOUR U OF I STUDENTS

Four University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students have been awarded Barry M. Goldwater scholarships for their potential to help advance research in natural sciences, mathematics or engineering.

Juniors George Bayliss, Peter Golemis and Cliff Sun and sophomore Maxwell Mamishev are among the recipients of the $7,500 award honoring the late U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater.

The scholarships are awarded by UWorld and the Department of Defense National Defense Education Programs.
